Medical Professionals are Begging us to Mandate Masks Part II

The Latest Rules for Wearing Masks—And Good Masks to Buy

From a Local Medical Clinic Employee:

"Mr. Bergosh:   Sadly, I have watched you over the last month on TV rudely speaking to a physician in a meeting regarding support to follow CDC guidelines which support wearing a mask by all people. Last night, you sarcastically said that wearing masks in down town Pensacola was not being enforced or working.   I applaud the majors[SIC] actions to enforce and guide Escambia citizens in the right direction but the city can not do it alone it needs to be countywide and statewide.  When you encourage people "to  shop at Winn Dixie where they don't require masks" because they have a choice you are allowing more asymptomatic people to infect others.  We are very disappointed as health care providers in the leadership that you are providing regarding the support to not wear a mask.  Unfortunately, wearing a mask is not an option or a right when it can bring harm to another individual!  Perhaps you should take a tour at all the area hospitals and see how many patients are currently in the hospital.  I encourage you to  talk and listen to the staff who are very tired, stressed, and becoming ill themselves. As a social worker I can not even find transportation for my dialysis patients because nobody wants to transport a COVID patient to dialysis because of fear of catching the virus and inability to clean their vehicles appropriately.   I'm asking you to be part of the solution not the problem.  It's bad enough that we have a governor who has let Florida's COVID spread like wildfire.  As I watch our numbers in Escambia county climb every day I feel compelled to reach out to you to put politics aside and do the right thing to protect our county.  Postcards are nice but leadership is better."

  1. Commissioner Bergosh

Your thoughtful blogs are confusing to some, plus they watch a Zoom when you are alone and they can't seem to put one plus one together, because you don't have on a mask. They read a headline them start typing.

The toxic, who can only blame and speak of blood on a politicians' hands are also noted. They are out there -- Tedious boors who attract negative people.

We are in a pandemic, I would like to see the politician or leader look straight in the camera and look into the lens, point their finger and place the "blame" /responsibility to stop the pandemic right where it lies. On the Individual.

The few that comment, (anti maskers) have free speech but it it known more people are compelled to post on a post that disagree with an item then the ones that agree and facebook has become the mine field for conflict in these trying times. However....

"A team of researchers led by Texas A&M University recently studied infection rates in China, Italy and New York City before and after masks were mandatory.

Wearing masks in public “corresponds to the most effective means to prevent interhuman transmission,” the researchers concluded in the study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and, along with social distancing, quarantine and contact tracing, is the most likely way to stop the pandemic, prior to development of a vaccine."

    Period.

  2. "It is easy to understand the ongoing confusion about masks. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, early on gave the anti-mask crowd ammunition for its war on good sense.

“There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask,” Fauci told the nation on March 8. Now, he says he said that to head off an anticipated drain of personal protective equipment for first-responders. Fauci’s concerns about shortages proved correct as beleaguered staff in some hospitals took to wearing garbage bags when their personal protective equipment ran out.

    What does Fauci say now?

“There’s no doubt that wearing masks protects you,” Fauci told the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions last week. “Anything that furthers the use of masks, whether it’s giving out free masks or any other mechanism, I am thoroughly in favor of.”

  3. What's up with Dr. Rayme Edler and Corrections? Is Gilley and Coale still covering for her or what?

Don't let them drag you down but don't pass the buck or CYA either.

I get it -- mask mandates cause sharks to sue the county but so will prisoner deaths. And of course first res-ponders and correctional officers, need protection.

You must reboot and move out of denial phase.

Not playing the blame game but Let's do this. Slow the cases.

    Bad times.

Didn't any one else watch "Contagion" when they heard about this in January,

I thought the testing of infrared Gulf Power drones in March may have actually been to enforce cordon sanitaires in the future..

    Cat's out of the bag.

    Act.

  5. I haven't watched everything, just some of it. I didn't find you rude or sarcastic. It seemed like you are a human being frustrated at times and looking for direction. TMI. at times. The different news sites and reporters have sometime not done the info justice. How about journalism without spin? Wear and PNJ? Not possible.

  6. Just imagine if we created mandates for all expert advice. In a perfect world we'd all win by doing what every expert advises. But this is not a perfect world, it is often a zero sum game. If one group of experts has it their way, there will be an equal size group of experts that do not get it their way. Jeff is rightfully trying to find a balance by not bowing down to medical experts list of growing/changing demands, because there is an equal size group of experts that make a strong case for doing the opposite, or differently. Experts never get everything they want, not in war, not in pandemics, not in court, not at home, not at work, and not from God. We've never only listened to one group of experts, and never will.

  7. DO NOT fall for this Commissioner. There is no scientific evidence that masks work. You said so yourself that businesses were allowed already to put up signs and only serve people with masks. Do not make this a mandate. I implore you to continue to research. The governor hasn't made masks a requirement for the state, why should counties and cities? I got tested a few days ago. I got the results back and it was negative. All without a mask. I've social distanced, washed my hands, and am staying home as much as I can. I'm doing all of the right things and for me it's working. Masks are causing people to be complacent and this is what is the cause of the virus contraction. I was in Winn Dixie without a mask the not long ago. An older woman, who was wearing a mask, came into the area I was in. I was standing there looking at choices and she stood right next to me within a foot and stayed there for minutes while she was deciding. I stepped back and away from her. This is what I'm talking about. People who wear masks are contributing to the problem by not taking the precautions that I have continued to take without a mask. I tested NEGATIVE. Don't take what little freedoms we have left away from us because what comes next are fines, assaults and chaos. Please. I beg you not to make this mandate.

  8. Latest Underhill BS... He has recently posted to a Facebook group called "No Mas(k)" (sic). He has provided the group with the e-mails of all 5 ECCs and asked that they be e-mailed with opposition to a mask mandate.

The admins of the group, according to their profiles, live in South Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, and Calgary (yes, in Canada).

I don't give a flip whether we have a mask mandate or not, but it seems to me that the only people who should be soliciting action from the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners are people who actually live in Escambia County.

  9. “You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

There was resistance to mask wearing during the Spanish Flu in 1918 and the ones that didn't wear one are all dead now.

What does that tell ya? ;)

  10. I understand your ideology but I think it would behoove us all to all if you ask the Governor to issue a statewide mandate ASAP. There is too much conflict and we need to go into problem solving mode and put all the opinons and drama to rest on this one issue locally.

If people in positions don't act swiftly we may lose our country as we know it in more ways than one.

Call DeSantis and ask for the state mandate. IMO.

Blame game and conflict is dysfunctional.

    Try to avoid it.

  11. People didn't follow the guidelines. Perhaps we put too much faith in peoples' ability to handle freedom. Look at the psychological aspects of denial surrounding groups and ideologies.. if you want to.

People read headline and argue--did any one in the public even read this? They couldn't follow suggestions and guidelines so as a whole they are giving up freedoms.

    https://jeffbergoshblog.blogspot.com/2020/05/what-is-governors-plan-to-reopen-economy.html

Governor's original plan linked. No mandate but people didn't do as suggested.

I'm not in favor of blaming elected leaders but believe we should try to lift them up.

Thank you. You are in a difficult position -- but you got this..

    state wide mandate

  12. I read the County Attn has given you 3 choices on the masks. It is tantamount to rely on wise council and law. That is the founding principle of our constitutional republic. Long may it stand.

Anti vaxers and anti maskers, while free to have an opinion and speech, have been well studied by psychologists. History can teach us about this also.

"Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it; so that when Men come to be undeceiv’d, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect." —Jonathan Swift (1710)

Also about Underhill using social media to attempt to swarm his own board. His political manipulations are apparent, as have always been to ones paying attention. I certainly would not support his assistant Owens to be on the board.

I also think the behavior of who ever was following him on social media and found that post on a national site is also a lot to take as they fight fire with fire and escalate the drama, probably using numerous f/b accounts although in this case I give them a bit of a pass. High Conflict people thrive on conflict rather than take strides to deescalate it. They also lack any self reflecting into their own cause of the problems they create. It's certainly interesting at times, like a soap opera is interesting.

Underhill was certainly called out...in these call out cancel culture wars but as children say in conflict.."He started it"

Why have you as a board of his peers, never publicly censured (not censored) him for his despicable behavior? It's like you condone it because you don't condemn it. That is weak.

On another note, I hope you heard the podcast on the monument-- the attn representing the people in historic trust is citing some of the same legal principles argued in the Bay View cross case at the 11th court of free speech and the fact if some one is offended it gives then no standing "UNDER THE LAW"

    Fend off the revolution.
