How is this OK? Why Does Andy Marlette Get a Pass?

Andy Marlette used a disgusting racial slur in his cartoon that was posted on the PNJ Facebook page yesterday by a commenter to his editorial who simply asks--"Wait...Is this Okay, Andy??

Look--I don't support "Cancel-Culture."  I think it is a slippery slope.  Folks are imperfect, and times change.  And people change, as well.  Stuff gets taken out of context, lies are manufactured, inarticulate verbal slips end careers.  It is dangerous, it is scary. "Cancel culture"---It is the anathema of the 1st Amendment and Free Speech.  Especially when it only applies to some.  But when a person writes the N-Word in a cartoon and signs his name to it--and the cartoonist is a white man---wow!  How is this OK?  Why does Andy Marlette and the PNJ get a pass on this?

This disgusting, racist cartoon that is purportedly a product of white, elitist, privileged cartoonist Andy Marlette of the PNJ was posted on Facebook yesterday on the PNJ facebook site under the comments section--and it naturally piqued my curiosity.  Here is a picture from the link, below.

Andy Marlette used a disgusting racial slur in his cartoon that was posted on the PNJ Facebook page yesterday by a commenter to his editorial who simply asks--"Wait...Is this Okay, Andy??

Because when we live in a world where cartoons in books from 5 decades ago, penned by staunch liberals like Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel), are now verboten---how does a backwater, hack cartoonist like Andy Marlette get to use the racist N-Word in his cartoon--and NOT face any pushback at all?

I mean, right now many Disney classics from decades ago are being pulled from some screening service platforms because of perceived racist overtones.

Chris Harrison gets booted from the Bachelor after serving as host for 20 seasons with the show-for  not being agreeable enough with a host during an interview.  (Harrison even apologized, profusely, after the fact.  Didn't matter, he's gone, cancelled.)

White spring breakers who get to rap along with big celebrities get chastised by the PNJ and other outlets.

But Arrogant Andy gets a pass--for writing the word??

Look--I don't like and I don't support Cancel Culture.  But a public figure like Andy Marlette, a guy who has lied about me and many others---including disgustingly, wrongly accusing me of being a racist and a homophobe, how does he draw a pass here?  He's a guy who has drawn the most vicious, disrespectful cartoons desecrating Christianity, denigrating our former (Republican) Presidents, the former First Lady, and lots of other conservative political figures---How does such an Arrogant, disgusting hypocrite like him not get taken to task over this racist tripe cartoon?

He should explain it, he should apologize, Is this cartoon his?  Why use that word?  Does he disavow it? He should explain it and apologize for it immediately. Otherwise he should step aside.  Perhaps if his sponsors (Rooms to Go?)  and those of his employer were told, maybe he would do the right thing and just cancel himself and quit?  He should.

Doubtful, though.

Apparently he makes a lot of money for the PNJ through his syndicated cartoons.  He's an "elite" cartoonist big-shot now.

I guess money makes it okay for Andy Marlette to do disgusting cartoons like this while others who do less-- get cancelled.

  1. 'OL "N-word Using Andy," what a loser. The liberal left will gut you for anything much less than this, but give their own a pass a la Brett Kavanaugh juxtaposed to old folks Covid killer/young 20 year old groper Andy Cuomo.
The Libs hate the new testament bible, but love the old an eye for an eye. Let both Andy's gouging begin. This won't be contained to your lonely blog. It will metastasize and "N-word using Andy" will take a break, like so many others. He has to. God how the libs can't help create, but hate, the boomerang. To use a phrase "N-word using Andy" should have used instead of a racial slur in his cartoon that will soon apply to him : "Bye Felicia."

  2. He thought it was clever at the time. Of course, Libs hated Condi Rice, but liked Kanye then. But now, hate Kanye, too, because of his bromance with Trump. Libs hate Clarence Thomas, Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Candace Owens, Carol Swain, Larry Elder and on and on or any other person who disagrees with their victim embracing, America hating ideology. So, racial slurs against them or any other rational, pragmatic, statistic observing and/or conservative person is OK.

I guess back then it was ok for a white guy to point out that Condi Rice could use the race card better than Kayne West and if you ended it with "ga" not "ger"

    It was acceptable.

Now Cardi B can be on the Grammys and kids aren't supposed to watch Peter Pan..

    yeah right..

  4. I know know what Marlette meant. Why don't you ask his superiors to get him to publicly explain it?

" Pensacola News Journal published a cartoon depicting two fire fighters hosing down African Americans as a smiling fire fighter says: “Don’t worry, since they laid off all the journalists in Alabama we can get away with this kind of stuff again!”

The Pensacola News Journal is the most widely read paper in northwest Florida and serves Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

Cartoonist Andy Marlette defended his drawing, "
"Pensacola News Journal readers are also criticizing the newspaper – just take a look at the comments, some of which are excerpted below.

“This is absolutely ridiculous that you would stoop to such a level as putting this in your newspaper!!! I am a fire fighter and I take great offense to this!! Putting us in such a bad light to make a point for selling newspapers!! You have it in your own requirements to ‘keep your comments smart and civil. Don’t attack other readers personally and keep your language decent.’ You have attacked me and all my fire fighter family with even thinking of printing this!!!”

“What would possess this guy Marlette to create such a disrespectful and divisive cartoon and why would fire fighters be brought into the mix? Why would the Pensacola News Journal allow this to run? Very little journalistic integrity in my opinion. Boycott this newspaper.”

  6. Looks like PNJ finally got the message with Marlette and he is no longer showing his insanity with political cartoons. Maybe there is a God -- next get a new D2 (not Pino, not Underhill, not Owens nor a democrat) and we will be getting somewhere, at least locally.
