Andy Marlette Leaving the PNJ

Early this morning comes word that cartoonist Andy Marlette is leaving the PNJ.

And of course as he has done dozens of times for 15 years he features me in yet another cartoon on his way out the door.  LOL.

Speculation abounds.  Was he fired?  Did he push the envelope just a little too far last week with his racist BLM cartoon where he made fun of BLM and denigrated them?  Was it his misogynistic attacks on female employees of elected officials?  Was it his use of the "n" word in his cartoons?  Did he do something too stupid one too many times?  Was Andy Cancelled??

OR

Did he get (insert image of me doing a giant airquote) "Promoted" By Gannett or his cartoon syndication company?  You know, how some folks get these giant so-called "promotions" with more money and fancy titles and then are shipped away from enjoyable high-paying, high profile gigs to a cubicle somewhere in the bowels of the "Death-Star" of a corporate headquarters so they are "out of sight...."  Maybe it was one of those deals?

Who knows? we may never know.  Too many questions...  But you knew it had to happen sooner or later as this guy was so completely and 100% out of step with the center-right majority in this market.  How he lasted this long here is a real mystery....(wait, no it's not.  He blasted the last President mercilessly and unfairly, appeased, served, and pleased the liberal types in Gannett and the syndication company who hate conservatives by doing it--and got a syndicated cartoon strip for his efforts there which generates CASH money for he and Gannett!  Ka-ching!$)

I'm glad, at least, that his final editorial was classy, too. (but wait, it wasn't).

Angry, bitter, cynical, untruthful, sprinkled in with praise for his co-workers and loaded-up with a heaping dose of disdain, scorn, contempt, poison, venom and outright hatered for elected public servants.  That's what this moron's swan song editorial is.

What a total pox this guy has been on this area, in my humble opinion.

After his dozens of cartoons where he disgustingly lies about me and actually "projects" by insinuating I am a racist and homophobic-----pardon me if I take a modicum of pleasure in this tool's departure.  "See-ya, would NOT want to be ya."

Inaccurate cartoons, biased jibberish editorials, out of step with the community and racist to boot.

Goodbye Andy and good luck.  You and all the rest from 2007 are gone now.  Gone, and I'm still here.

Buh bye.

Here's a line you can use on your next cartoon: "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya!

  1. I certainly hope your childish rants are somehow hidden from anyone outside Escambia county. No wonder we didn’t get higher quality candidates for the administrator job.

  2. I can immediately cite as least one issue on which you and Andy were in “lockstep”. And today the great citizens of Escambia County are suffering the consequences of your short-sighted populist decisions.

When one recognizes that they are on the same side of an issue with Lisa Nellessen Savage and with Andy Marlette; one should have an epiphany.

On a separate topic, why is the Tourist Development Council holding $19 million dollars?

The citizens of Escambia County make enormous sacrifices every year in order to attract tourism revenue. Let’s put that money to work.

We have multiple needs throughout Escambia County. Let’s reduce our advertising and start funding this county. Most tourists learn of our area through word of mouth and social media.

And let’s stop ripping off the great men and women who have invested in Pensacola Beach. Why are lease fees being used to fund tourism? $500,000 annually for trolleys, $1 million annually to renourish the public beaches, Blue Angel Airshows, Bands on the Beach, the Visitors Center, etc., etc..

Pensacola Beach produces the lion’s share of those TDT taxes, but receives precious little in return.

  3. I wish Pensacola Beach had never been issued a single building permit, nor water and sewer nor bridges been built out to a barrier island. It should have been left pristine.

The department of interior gave it to the citizens, not to give away to a bunch of greedy bastards.

Good to see Andy go, he was a pox on the area yet you can get an insight into like minded individuals and the similar madness and that has normalized disrespect for elected public servants.

  4. He probably would have applauded Biden's address to the nation last night. Glad he is going away. There are some sick people who keep talking/typing though.

  5. Anon 9:11--One has nothing to do with the other--nice try. I have no idea who or who doesn't go to the site or from where they come--but I do have a decent ammount of daily traffic and my opinions do not dissuade anyone from seeking employment and our newly appointed administrator is doing a fantastic job. Now, run along back to your funhouse hatewatch site with your 11 friends :)

    1. You had to lower the minimum qualifications for him. He’s doing an adequate job of being an administrator probably a fantastic job of doing your bidding but unfortunately no leadership, no plan. Fits right in. Funny how as soon as someone is critical of you , you instantly make the assumption they are affiliated with some group. Can’t wait until 2024

  6. Commissioner Bergosh I would have to agree with anon 9:11. The county stays in litigation. Wealthy citizens filing lawsuits against commissioners, commissioners suing the clerk for a questionable retirement plan, citizen activists terrorizing county staff, and staff getting fired or run off. I wouldn't want to work for the county. Moreno might be a nice guy but he doesn't check any of the qualification boxes.

  7. 4:04--Repeat poster with the same IP, now you want to bash Wes Moreno who is doing a bang-up job for the county and citizens. Look--I don't put my faith in anyone's piece of paper hanging on a wall--it's much more important to have a leader with a proven track record of performance. We have that in Wes, he has the respect of the employees, he knows the job, and he is doing the job. To say he simply does our bidding and has "no leadership" is simply an ad hominem attack against him that is unfair, unjust, and inaccurate. And to your other point, if someone is critical of me I will certainly look to the issue or the criticism and attempt to improve. When it is the same 12 people from one site on every issue it is not about elected or appointed leaders not seeing issues for improvement, it is all about the same clique of malcontents attacking a person they don't like for many reasons (e.g. he beat their buddy in an election, he wouldn't do "X" for someone, he doesn't Kowtow to them, etc. etc.) And finally, to your remark about not being able to wait until 2024--that's great! I'll be on the ticket again and by all means, please, move to my district and put your name and reputation on the line to run against me if you think you can do better, have a better track record, a better education, or whatever you think. I'll be there ready to go in 30 months too. That's a long time for you to wait in frustration. enjyoy that.
