Who is the Real Dunce?

If Andy Marlette HATES the process of IP garnering their discharge renewal permit so badly--he should prove it by going to congress with his issues--it is a FEDERAL process, something over which the Escambia BCC has no control....

It's easy to shake one's fist in anger and lash out at people.  It's somewhat amusing to watch this happen when such a person who is decompensating and going apoplectic happens to be glib on the subject about which he is so aggrieved.

Fire!  Ready! Aim!  and the shadow-chasing, windmill tilting simpleton takes shots at people who have no say in the issue about which he is so heated and lathered.  Who cares though, right?

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it any more" is the tone, as if channeled directly from the 70's cult favorite "Network."  "Dammit--I'll show them!!" is the attitude.

This, folks, perfectly describes PNJ cartoonist Andy Marlette's ridiculous garbage "pieces" in Sunday's paper.  (They preempted Walter Williams' excellent piece on police entrance examinations that should have run on Sunday-and did in most markets--and instead ran Andy's rambling screed about IP and Escambia County on Sunday, relegating Williams' excellent article to the no-audience Monday edition of the PNJ...ho hum)

What's he so worked-up over now--you might ask?!?

Andy is "angry" about International Paper's attempts to get a renewal of their discharge permit under NPDES.

But wait just a minute.

Who is in charge of that process anyway, you might ask?  The County Commissioners??  (here is a hint--it ain't the BCC)

Answer:  it is a FEDERAL program and process, delegated to the States, a product of the FEDERAL Clean Water Act.  And yes, it is a very circuitous, cumbersome, opaque, and  time-consuming process.  And yes, it has layers and layers of processes, procedures, appeals, mitigation strategies, and due process protections for the applicant.  Yes, due process--that thing that progressives like Andy normally really, really support....except when the recipient of such due process is an "EVIL" large and successful Corporation!!!

So why the heck is Andy blaming the Escambia Board of County Commissioners for this process, anyway??

Because he apparently doesn't get it.

Andy, listen to me, and check out this logical advice......

If you don't like the NPDES process, go to Congress and tell them to modernize the process and protocols under the CWA.  Go yell at them---IT'S THEIR PROCESS!

Otherwise, you are just exercising yourself,  pushing a wet noodle up a hill.  And you look foolish.

Of course we all want a clean environment.  Nobody likes pollution, and nobody wants the water flea to die. That's why I met with FDEP back in June to learn what is going on--something you obviously didn't do yet...so tell the truth--the toxicity tests on the minnow and the flea come from water at the "end of the pipe"--but water from the "end of the pipe" goes for miles and miles and through a three-berm system within 1200 acres of private "polishing" wetlands---- before it ever hits Perdido Bay.  Did you know that Andy?   Come on man, really?!?

Nobody, even Republicans like me, likes pollution.  But let's not get ridiculous, okay?  I mean It's not like you-Andy- yourself don't drive a car that emits noxious, carcinogenic fumes all over the place....and just think of how many Love Bugs you kill, smashing them to pieces with your car as you drive, leaving them all over the front of your car to die..  Andy the Love-Bug Killer!!!  (kind of has a ring to it, but yes it's ridiculous...)

It's kinda like the folks who are angry because they think Donald Trump doesn't pay taxes.  Hey, if you're mad about that, go to your congressman and get them to pass better legislation.  Go complain to the IRS. Tighten the loopholes. Pass a FLAT TAX!  Don't blame it on the County Commission! (because it's not like anybody with any gumption and income DOESN'T take every tax break to which they are entitled, right Andy?)

Or how about the idiots who don't like Amazon paying no tax on their profits (reportedly because of IRS regulations that allow for accelerated depreciation on capital purchases and expenditures).  Or the zombies that hate that Google pays no federal taxes (allegedly due to creative accounting, Double Irish, Quadruple-Cayman schemes and the organization of offshore "subsidiaries").  If you don't like something--prove it by going to the organizations that control such practices----and COMPLAIN TO THEM!!

Blame the people who are to blame, not the people you dislike.

Otherwise you look like the idiots who gave up driving, gave up eating red meat, gave up taking showers and now live in the woods in shame because they were told the glaciers were melting and the polar bears were drowning because of humankind...As they guy that told them this flies around the world in jets (many private), lives in a 8,000 sf mansion while driving a gas guzzling Hummer.....Don't be so gullible.

We absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your post's
to be just what I'm looking for. Would you offer guest
writers to write content for you personally? I wouldn't mind publishing a post or elaborating
on some of the subjects you write related to here.
Again, awesome web site!

Lil’ Duncer Marlette, that cracks me up. The difference between conservatives and modern day social progressive liberals is this: conservatives see the world the way it is and social progressive libs see the world the way they wish it were. Therefore, conservatives work hard to make a difference, SP libs cast blame and shame, picking winners and losers based on ideology, not reality. Think Trump derangement syndrome versus glossing over any SP lib wrong doing. Keep pointing out hypocrisy. Andy is a hypocrite.

Gee, Commissioner Bergosh, I wonder if the "back at you" Political Cartoon you are featuring on your blog is a copyright violation... Just asking. Also, the point of the article and the cartoon and the reason Escambia County Commissioners are involved is that on September 5th you all approved raising $10 million dollars in bonds in Escambia's name at the TEFRA (Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act) Bond Hearing. The $10 million dollars are for the benefit of International Paper who is supposed to repay the loan and any interest. This is "corporate welfare", pure and simple for a multinational corporation that has $34 billion dollars in net assets! Why did you do that, Commissioner Bergosh? Notice, I put my name on comments, etc.! Who drew your fake Marlette political cartoon?

Margaret Hostetter--manipulating Andy's cartoons to actually make them funny is considered a "parody." Do some basic research on parody and fair use. Read the rose acuff decision. Meanwhile, he is a public figure, he ought to be able to absorb a few sharp elbows and body blows considering the damage he inflicts via his garbage editorials and cartoons--which are particularly savage when directed at Republicans and conservatives. I hear he is some kind of a celebrity, a big deal. Who cares. All I know he is glib on much of what he pretends to be an expert upon. I also know it REALLY ticks him off when I manipulate his cartoons to make them funny and turn the tables on him. As a matter of fact, when I recently met with he and his boss at PNJ, he whined and cried about it, he squealed like Ned Beatty in the scene from "Deliverance." He said "Jeff takes my cartoons and changes the words around!!" to which his boss said "I'll talk to Barbara." That was a few months back so "Barbara" or probably some other conservative, intelligent Gannett lawyer told them that parody is protected and they can't control free speech. I manipulated the cartoon to make it funny and reflect reality because I can, and because I know it really ticks Andy off. He needs to learn how to take it, after all, he is a big shot public figure now.
