Who Will Be our Law Enforcement Officers?

Florida Law Enforcement Academy | Law Enforcement | School of ...

When I was a school board member, I often thought the most underappreciated workers in America were teachers.  Low pay, tremendous responsibility, impossible mandates, and constantly blamed for issues beyond their control.  I have always had the utmost respect for teachers because by and large they LOVE their jobs despite all the difficulties, and they make our communities better by building young men and women into productive citizens.

Now, as a County Commissioner that collects tax and funds our Sheriff's Office locally--upon witnessing the current events around our nation--I worry that the new most underappreciated public employees in our country are Law Enforcement Officers.

Who will be our police and deputy sheriffs?  Who will be willing to stand up to the toxic abuse these folks are enduring in our country today---just trying to do their jobs to keep us safe?

Who would step up to do this difficult job in this environment?

Second guessed, questioned, belittled and marginalized by segments of the citizenry--and not supported in many instances by the very governmental bodies that fund their operations.

It sickens me.  It is disgusting.

And just for complete clarity--I'm not talking about cases where clearly there is misconduct, like what we all witnessed and what was universally condemned in Minneapolis...

Thank God that locally our officers directly engage the citizens and we have not witnessed the sorts of issues here that are happening other places.  But could it happen here, could things take a turn for the worse?

I sure hope not.

Now I see what happened to the policeman in Atlanta yesterday.  I took the time and I watched the entire nearly hour-long body-cam and dashcam video yesterday evening.  The whole thing. I am no expert---but it sure seemed to me that both officers acted professionally and compassionately and treated this suspect with courtesy and respect.

When it was painfully obvious that the gentleman had failed the sobriety test--the suspect fought.  Going for the officers' weapons, wrestling, throwing punches, and fleeing with an officer's weapon.

Fighting with the police in the street is not appropriate, not smart, and will never end well for anyone.  Fight an issue in COURT--not in the streets.....

And when chased, the suspect reached back and fired the taser at the officer's face---at which point the suspect was shot.

A terrible tragedy that did not have to happen.  But who caused this?  What was that policeman supposed to do--I mean--did he know in that instant that it was a taser and not a gun?  Why is he being persecuted and prosecuted for this---what did he do wrong exactly??

And today I wake up and read that the officer is being charged with FELONY MURDER for this!

Are you kidding me?  Are you serious?  This is RIDICULOUS!

This is an absolute TRAVESTY and it MUST be rectified immediately.

Otherwise--we may see something none of us is prepared for.  Imagine if every Law Enforcement Officer in America "Called-In" sick.  Just imagine that for a minute......It could happen--that is how egregious this disgusting political "stunt" is, this "prosecution."  It could happen--and it would be ugly for many communities if it happened.  I hope it doesn't and I don't think it will......

This is spiraling out of control and we have GOT to get it right sided quick.

Because again, the question is important:  If we do not have the police's backs---who in their right mind will be our Law Enforcement Officers??

For entertainment and an eye opener and movie time watch BlacKkKlansman as a propaganda watch.

Of course we know Alec Baldwin is outspoken and is a part of the Soros organizations like PFTAW, People for the American Way and March for Life and worked pop culture to try to prevent the Trump presidency prior to 2016 but look for the obvious propaganda in the movie. Of course we all enjoy seeing the bad cop removed.

Who are the good guys who are the bad guys pitted against each other. It's obvious.
The Democratic party has been infiltrated and over run by Socials Democratic party and wish to dismantle our present government.

The Communists are with in, that's not a conspiracy theory nor needs to be a race or police issue or capitalism vs socialist issue. We are in the times of collapse from with in.

Kneeling on the flag is exactly what it looks like.

Even the 40 acres and a mule production at the end tells the tale.

People don't want to assimilate -- they want to change the country and most of us don't know what just hit us these past few weeks in the USA. They've shut down free speech by various means. It's obvious. and Trump is in their way.

Looking forward to the public forum video.

US Citizens need to wake up.

WEAR didn't do the story justice and also skewed the headline.

The speakers did get a little passionate at the public forum but I suppose it wasn't explained that they get three minutes, then elected representative can respond if they chose, not to be interrupted. It was a chance for them to be heard.

The second speaker needs to learn that he doesn't make demands and get his way. Civic classes are in order but at least they came to a meeting. The first speaker spoke her piece and then she interrupted you. All in all hopefully it was received alright. I doubt anyone plans to reallocate police funds in Escambia county or pay money illegally (demands)but it seems some steps are being taken for possible reform.

The real place to take that up for them would be with the sheriff though.

I sure hope no one allows them to paint the radical socialist party, that tore up and burned cities logo on our streets like Mobile is doing. That is offensive to some law abiding citizens. You are the first one that has had any spine to speak truth to demands that I have seen.

Reads up though because now you will be labeled the enemy if they are true Militant Markists and race bullies. Perhaps there is hope and we can all learn from this.

Read up on the old Stakes Carmichael and Student Union movement and people that changed their names to Muslim names to dodge the draft. Attempt to understand the ideology that capitalists are evil and racist. It's is ridiculous in the present day and time in this country as we are the most free nation in the world, however some are radicalized and some are hurting also I suppose.
Hopefully the balance in Pensacola will serve us well.

It was a little ironic after seeing you and Haines go round and round about the constitutional's budget that now you are saying increase their funds. Funny how life works.

Thanks for saying what many of us should be.

Great informative You tube -- must watch linked above.

Trained Professional Officer said...

So you want a trained Professional Officer responding to your house if someone is breaking in your house in the middle of the night. How interesting. I guess the same doesn't apply to a trained professional firefighter responding to your house on fire in the middle of the night. That same mindset should apply as well. Maybe when you are pressured to "reallocate" funds, the SO can utilize their auxillary force.

Professional Services said...

or maybe you can count on ems auxiliary to respond. what's funny is that, ems like the SO, the auxiliary members have to have the same professional certification and certification hours as their career counterparts. here's another idea, how about we reallocate the salaries of the bocc to those areas in PS that are are miserably underfunded. it's amazing that the bocc can pass a gas tax for a bus service that runs at half capacity yet can't fund and emergency service such as the fire department. you say, we increased your budget by 60%, ok. the reason the budget increased is due to the increase in the number of living units in the county. the manpower has increased 100% yet the bocc does nothing to actually increase the funding/budget to match that. LOST money is gone per the bocc but let's build two libraries that are obsolete due to the technology that exists w/in the home. does everyone have access to the interweb and online services at their residence, probably not. I find it hard to believe that the number of people who benefit from a county funded/maintained/staffed library is worthy of the cost. you want business, business, business in the county. have you told them their insurance is going to be higher than it should be due to lack of fire protection? you will counter with, if the businesses are here they will pay taxes. those taxes will not benefit PS for two years at best. then again, they may not want to bring their business here because escambia lacks the proper infrastructure to make their business as profitable as it can be. you have vision for the county but it is viewed thru rose colored glasses. it seems you have one portion of district one that you pander to but that's another discussion. I wonder how the residents of Paradise Beach and those that live well beyond the 5 mile travel distance from a fire station. the building is designated as a fire station but there ain't nobody home. so really, what good does it do other than look good on paper? I'll answer that, NONE! so much potential exists for that area yet you don't give it a second thought it seems. did you know there is a huge sports complex on bauer rd that can support a staffed fire station? did you know that surrounding counties have capitalized on their sports complexes with all kinds of tourneys from several different sports? maybe you do. yet you don't seem to give a hoot about that. I love the fact you are passionate but it seems your passion is fueled by the results of having your passions fulfilled. keep getting that low hanging fruit that your constituents can see you picking for your benefit. it's high time you start reaching a little higher and build the infrastructure that they deserve other than paving roads (your neighborhood), stormwater retention, sidewalks, libraries, etc. you have a big brain, use it to build a solid foundation for the county and then your dreams and desires of attracting businesses will come true. it reminds me of a line from one of mt favorite movies, if you build it, they will come.

"Trained professional officer" and "professional services"----This thread is about the attack on police in our country at the moment. Police are under attack literally, figuratively, and in the media. Vilified, derided, betrayed, and back-stabbed. The Fire Fighters are not under attack. As a matter of fact, we have worked hard over the years to increase your pay, and you know this. 3% raises yearly going back many, many, many years. And we are bargaining with you all now...Yes, bargaining. and I listened to the latest session. Wow. Did you all really have to treat Janice so poorly?? She didn't have to sit at the table with you but she did and the disrespect she was shown just oozes out of the recording. Disrespectful and impolite un-necessarily. Everyone should listen to it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta1LE6TThPk&list=PLYP6oPuWyBadVJCWW5K-M1Fm2ZNgc4JA1&index=3&t=0s So yes, we are working on your contract--despite the boorish behavior online directed toward us and the rude behavior at the bargaining table I heard in this recording. But this post is not about that--it is about our Law Enforcement being attacked and very few standing up to the BS attacks on them. I am standing up for them. Are you? Can you stand up for them without attempting to conscript the dialogue to make it "About you?"
