Thank you Commisioner for your transparency. Now is the time to be aggressive about helping prevent spread before we see more preventable loss of life, businesses being forced to shut down again because of employee loss, an increased load on our health care workers, decrease in tourism, and so on. Get vaccinated people, wear a mask, wash your hands, and if you’re vaccinated but immunecompromised remember break through cases are happening with those that have existing conditions. Let’s please pull together to help each other.

"Baptist Hospital reported Friday that since July 1, 65 people have been hospitalized for COVID -- 57 of those were unvaccinated. "

Anonymous said...

If everyone had gotten vaccinated, this strain of coronavirus would disappear and when the next one popped up, there would be a shot at containing it, like with SARS and MERS, neither of which ravaged the entire planet.

Instead, we have a bunch of people all hopped up on social media nonsense, who think it makes them look smart to run their mouths asserting obviously dumb stuff, and who actually- unbelievably- have somehow convinced themselves that this is a political issue instead of a public crisis.

Thanks to them, covid will have a nice easy time continuing to circulate, cooking up all kinds of new mutations until one pops up that's even more deadly and is vaccine resistant.

Melissa Pino said...

Oh, gee. The hospital administrators have stalled as long as they can on admitting that covid is screaming back in here, so here they come with their capes pinned back on.

Different wave same stall tactics, so they can guard their electives, continue to shield their unvaccinated hospital workers, and figure out all the new ways they are going to game the reporting this time. Not that they need much help on that beyond what the DeSantis administration is gifting them on dismantling covid reporting and science in general. Forgive the large portion of the community who was on to the administrators' game the last time around, and certainly doesn't have any faith in their information and self-serving PR this time.

Here's the reality: people are waiting 2 days in the ICU for ECMO machines while their caregivers can do little more than flop them onto their stomachs like a fish. (Maybe the hospitals are actually requiring workers in the covid wards to be vaccinated against covid? Or is that against the part of the constitution where is says you should be able to knowingly expose others to a deadly disease as their caregiver as long as it's sanctioned by your political party?)

Here's another reality: Covenant is sending around unvaccinated workers into people's homes, and DOES NOT ALLOW THEM OR THEIR FAMILIES TO REQUEST VACCINATED CARE GIVERS. One of my best friends had to kick an unvaccinated worker out of her mother's home this week. She was there to administer oxygen for a lung cancer condition. Who me? Worry about covid for lung cancer patients?

Any PR or pretend numbers coming out are moot, with DeSantis limiting the reporting to once a week, we will never know in the moment where the numbers are. It's just so convenient for all involved.

Somebody mentioned my hardened "bias" in another string, and how I would "have a tough go of it" (that's a paraphrase) if I didn't temper my opinions.

At least I will never have to face a tough go of it for having blood on my hands.

To lawmakers and party strategists who have orchestrated this fear factor and conspiracy about masks and vaccines among the republican base: good luck with this for the rest of your lives.

Because while you and your loved ones may escape any life-long repercussions of the infection itself, the human conscience has a strange way of pushing guilt into a person's every waking--and sleeping--thought as the years roll on.

And as we are all witnessing the most gross abnegation of failure among political leadership that this country has ever been visited with, there are gonna be a whole lot of lawmakers who got that shot early, while people needlessly died due to their obstructionist failures of public health and safety, and who will have a very long life to look back on their sins as others look on.

None of the Republicans are vaccinated and it's all Trump and DeSantis's fault yet I'm here to save the world. In fact if you elect me everyone else can just go home because I am the smartest person and know it all. I am perfect, just ask me and I will suck all the oxygen out of the room making sure you all have that straight. Even though Michelle Saltzman is urging people to get vaccinations, I just can't see it because I'm a frigging weirdo and just don't like Republicans!!! Yet my conscience is clear because I can do no wrong, and if I do it's not my fault, it is everybody elses'.

Because I TOLD YOU SO!

The world need to lock down and never come out and all society stop because of a virus.

Because PEOPLE ARE Dying!!!!

Elect me and nobody will ever die"

Whether you’re pro or anti-vaccine, be aware that the democrat media is trying to point the finger at “Trump Followers” for resisting the Wuhan Flu shot but, the reality is much different.

The greatest percentage of unvaccinated Americans are among the very same demographic who have the highest unemployment rate, the highest percentage of persons on public assistance, the highest percentage of school drop-outs, the highest percentage of violent criminals and yet is the very same group that miraculously shows up to “vote” 90% democrat in every election.

A guilt trip leaves a person feeling guilty for something that may not be their responsibility or personal fault. It's guilt induced by another person. Guilt trips are a form of coercion or psychological manipulation-but they can sometimes be self-inflicted. Nevertheless, guilt trips are done by other people who have ulterior motives. While there are various methods to overcome and resist guilt trips, you must have a complete and thorough understanding of all that guilt trips entail.

An Overview of Guilt Trips

Guilt trips are carefully crafted forms of psychological manipulation and abuse, as affirmed by Paired Life. Most people who attempt to inflict guilt upon others are incredibly calculating and conniving; they know exactly what they're doing and are used to wielding guilt as a weapon to get what they want from others. Many view guilt trips as a type of bullying.

Guilt trips are unhealthy and unreasonable. Anyone can be on the receiving end of a guilt trip. Friends, family members, associates, coworkers, and even employers can be targeted by a manipulative, yet crafty individual who harbors an agenda. Fortunately, there are several warning signs of an impending or current guilt trip. An awareness of the indicative signals will help save people from being misled and otherwise conned into doing what the particular bully wants.

Things to Know When a Guilt Trip Occurs

Guilt trippers have several tricks and giveaways. The unsuspecting or unaware individual may miss them; however, their more aware counterpart will be able to recognize the signs and act accordingly. Those who employ guilt trips make their targets feel responsible for the source of the complaint. It applies whether the complaint revolves around a loss, a disappointment, or something else entirely. Moreover, this person will likely nag, refuse to let up on their target, and make even the most simple matters as complicated and dramatic as possible.

Guilt trips are not always outright and easy to spot. Sometimes this particular form of psychological manipulation can take place in passive, passive-aggressive, or aggressive conduct towards the target. This conduct can include isolation, the silent treatment, or explicit antagonism. The purpose is to upset the target and consequently manipulate them into feeling contrite and ashamed of themselves, even when they should not be.

Other guilt trippers may bring up past occasions or instances when they were of aid (or at least appeared to be) to their current target. Common themes of this particular trick are "Look how much I did for you," "If it weren't for me, where would you be," "Remember when I was there for you," and other similar statements.

I'm Republican, I'm vaccinated, I still wear a mask and social distance and have never had Covid, for what's that's worth. I just found out my Grandson had it for 2 days and is fine now after going to a concert in Austin TX.

Blaming people puts them on the defense and emotional rants are very off putting and ineffective.

https://www.kff.org/policy-watch/the-red-blue-divide-in-covid-19-vaccination-rates-is-growing/

I came across this website, I'm not sure who backs it but to me it seems factual. One link shows African Americans have a lower percentage of getting the vaccine but another link shows the partisan divide between Red and Blue counties. I think to be effective to try to get more people to get the vaccine would be a good effort I don't believe in lock downs or mandates and would vote for DeSantis again in a heartbeat, even for President.

Here is a good paragraph. from KFF

"Although there has been an overall significant slow-down in COVID-19 vaccination rates in the U.S., these findings show a widening divide of communities at risk for COVID-19 along partisan lines. A key component of any effort to boost vaccination rates among Republicans will be identifying the right messengers. According to our Vaccine Monitor, which tracks the public’s attitudes and experiences with COVID-19 vaccinations, Republicans are most likely to trust their doctors and employers to provide reliable information on COVID-19 vaccines, while government sources are less trusted. Going forward, efforts that focus on these messengers, including President Biden’s recent announcement to augment vaccination distribution through doctor’s offices, may help, but there is a hardcore group of vaccine resisters who are disproportionately Republican and will be difficult to move."

I see there is an article on PNJ about rural areas and vaccines, however I didn't read it because I don't subscribe. I open an incognito tab and read. Marlette is a huge turn off as well as their false reporting on county politics,

Melissa Pino said...

Anon 3:16, if your comments about blaming people had my above posts at least partially in mind, I want to make clear I'm not blaming "people" for this country's appalling covid response.

I'm blaming the GOP lawmakers and strategists, and their conspiracy peddlers such as FOX and Gateway pundit, who intentionally inculcated the GOP base with fear and conspiracy theory, failed to act with the best interests of their constituents in mind, and would do anything--absolutely anything, that is apparent--to satiate their greed and power hunger.

The hundreds of thousands of avoidable deaths that have occurred, and will continue to occur, rests on their mendacity and therefore their consciences.

It's not manipulative guilt tripping to lay the blame for a horrendous wrong where it actually belongs. Nor is it out of line to look a political class who actually let people die for their own political gain straight in the eye and say, "Have you no shame."

I'm not shaming the poor people who are so twisted up in the lies that have been visited on them they actually think it's a show of liberty to help spread a pandemic and subject themselves and their loved ones to the potential of chronic illness, excruciating suffering, and even death. I'm talking about the politicians who knew and know better, and still say and do nothing, unless they are still actively pursuing a program of trying to PR covid away.

History will show that this isn't "bias," but the stone cold truth. Don't let them fool you: if they aren't out-and-out whack jobs such as Marjorie Taylor Green and Doug Underhill, the decision makers all know the truth. Too many people counting on plausible deniability, crooked stats, and short memories.

Which is why I said that while those things may indeed help hide the truth from those who will wish to the bitter end to remain fooled, the people who either orchestrated this disinformation onslaught or who could have done something about it, and didn't, are going to have to answer to their own consciences for it in the end. Because it seems as if there has been nothing between the beginning of this pandemic and now that has been an effective enough mirror to compel them to talk straight and act. This pertains to the wholesale betrayal of a huge percentage of the American people's trust and well being. I think that merits a hell of a lot more truth to power from ordinary people than we have witnessed so far.

Cases are picking up in Florida, ex Jacksonville:

"Florida now leads the nation in new COVID-19 cases. One in five new U.S. coronavirus cases are being reported in Florida, according to NPR.

Duval County saw more than 6,400 last week, a sharp increase of 2,000 over the previous week.

The pace of vaccinations is picking up locally as well. More than 9,000 thousand residents got vaccinated last week, nearly double the number from the week before.

Curry has said his emergency operations team is working with local hospitals to keep them from being overwhelmed, and that nearly all the COVID-19 patients they treat are unvaccinated."

The Mayor is starting a campaign to say:

"I got the #COVID19 vaccine and you should too. Keep this going by sharing this post or creating your own to encourage your family, friends, and neighbors to get the vaccine."

Are all county workers vaccinated?

It's difficult to look at her page. I do wonder how she is covering the WEAR article about DeSantis and the illegals at he border or our congressman, Gaetz and MTG getting shut down for speaking out about the detainees in Washington DC? I had written him about the political prisoners and was relieved to see they were responding.

I don't find it comical, I find it disturbing how she shames and hates and has various profiles trying to ram her agenda and opinions down other people's throats. Don't swallow. It's poisonous. And yes hypocritical.

I don't think Commissioner Bergosh wants to get too far in the weeds about national politics, as it is very controversial. I liked seeing the letter to PNJ posted here in which a constituent mentioned the writings of Thomas Sowell and Woodson.

Get vaccinated, be reasonable.

Yet then on the other hand read this on Ricks blog, She's got what it takes to call out Underhill..this is off topic but still about local politics, read MW's comments

https://ricksblog.biz/atu-prez-pam-childers-literally-lied/

The comments are about Underhill, Arduini, Childers the 401a and all that so it is pertinent to things swirling around locally.

If the 401a was so illegal they why did the ethics committee opinion give him the go ahead to ask for the votes. I will say I agree with MW on this one.

That's how it works, some things you agree on, some you don't.

I'm not for communism in our republic.

I could post this on another thread I guess but trying it here and turning this off. I don't even look at facebook often.

Get a vaccine :)

I saw the questions too. Here they are. Accusations are flying but only a few are asking questions we all deserve answers to before jumping to conclusions.

1.) The statutes were amended in 1999 concerning the annuity fund inclusion. If that is the case and the annuity fund was removed as an option, why didn’t the forms provided to the commissioners reflect that?

2.) How did our Pam Childers not know until now that this was not an option, and allowed Commissioner Bender to receive payment under that plan at the same rate as FRS for the last couple of years?

3.) According to statute 129.09 Any clerk of the circuit court acting as county auditor, whom pays any illegal charge against the county not authorized by the law shall be personally liable for such amount. So does that mean Pam Childers also broke the law and is responsible for paying that amount back?

--Anon 12:12 PM, it's good that a number of republicans have stated in the press that getting the vaccine is important. It's far too little far too late, and not nearly enough in terms of the real leadership that is needed right now in terms of policy. Talk is cheap. But at least a growing number of GOP up for election are covering their tracks with the bare minimum, so there is some record they can point to that they "tried" when the GOP electorate wakes up to the fraud perpetrated on them by their own party.

--Anon 12:18, thanks for covering the racist angle in this string of comments. What would we do without it.

--Anon 1:51 "It's comical to stumble across Mel's personal page and read a few comments on a post. Don't disagree with her or her opinions or she'll delete those comments and block you. "

That's a lie, of course. I specifically stated that I was changing the rules for commenting on my open wall from blocking people on a "three strikes and a block" with misinformation, disinformation, or conspiracy to simply deleting those comments with notation that content has been deleted for that reason. While you may not recognize the difference between an opinion and a false statement of fact, it's an extremely important difference that clear thinkers still recognize even in this age of contagious alternate reality.

--"I find it disturbing how she shames and hates and has various profiles trying to ram her agenda"

That's also a lie. I don't post from any other account than my personal account. There are many people who share my opinions on certain topics that apparently want to fly under the radar. I recognize this must boggle your mind into thinking it must be all me.

--Anon 20:21 "I do wonder how she is covering the WEAR article about DeSantis and the illegals at he border or our congressman"

For the most part, I've been ignoring DeSantis's border dog and pony show, which is what it deserves. I've responded on the subject a couple of times in replying to people's comments about it on my wall, but I'm not wasting any more effort or time than that on his border circus, which is spreading xenophobia as a fear mongering tactic and robbing our state of precious taxpayer resources.

--Anon 1:58 PM, I didn't post a comment on that particular blog post of Rick's (nor do I ever post anonymously or with a pseudonym), but I agree MK hit the nail on the head. I did bring that blog onto my Facebook and commented the following there:

"No shock here. There has been a lot of literally lying out of County Admin and the Clerk's Office the last couple of years, Michael A. Lowery. Patience has never been one of my virtues, but these officials sewing falsehoods has helped me learn some. While it was frustrating beyond belief to have to sit back and wait for it, the truth will eventually come out. It will never cease to amaze me how long some of these people continue to spout falsehoods while they mistake the glaring spotlight for the glow of limelight."

Anon 9:01, I haven't posted on Studio 850 since they culled their forum into a Q lite romper room, and I unfollowed them around the time they sent Romi White and James Calkin to the Florida border to bootlick and spread disinformation under their banner. It's apparent that Teresa lost her vision and direction for why she started a media group to begin with a long time ago, and Singley hasn't ever stopped shilling for the Douggites and ECW.

--What would be accomplished by me posting under another name there that I couldn't just post myself?

--Why would I waste time with any space where Jacqueline Rogers's daughter controls the content?

Those are real questions. Consider them seriously, and it might be apparent that the answers are "nothing" and "I wouldn't."

Again, while it seems astonishing to some people that there are many locals who share similar opinions to mine about some major issues, that's the reality, and they quite clearly don't need to get those opinions from me and don't need me to write for them. Should make for a interesting election cycle, if DeSantis doesn't cancel the elections with an executive order or convince his Chamber of Fasces and Corporations to postpone them for him.

Normal people don’t care. This is so immature that it can only be Alex arduini. I read the stuff on studio 850 and Alex Arduini is the biggest bully. Him and Joel Cotton starting making fun of someone for their questions about the retirement plan, then someone else asked them why they were bullying him and Alex Arduini went crazy on the person. Alex kept provoking him then told him he looked up his voter registration, and googled him. Who does that? Psychos! Then Sean bullyton jumped in to accuse the person of being Jeff Bergosh or Melissa Pino. Same crap different day. The only cyber bully missing from that immature show was Jacqueline Rogers and Douglas Underhill. Normal people are sick to death of yalls cyber bullying and the nonstop baseless attacks on others. You people act like rabies infested animals. Grow up already. You don’t like what someone says on the internet then block them or scroll on by. If you’re so weak that you can’t handle the fact that someone else has a different opinion than you then block them. Not everyone is the boogeyman like you weirdos think. You people always create the most problems on the news pages and people are tired of it!!!!!! Pensacola has enough of a hate problem.

9:01 realistically there’s much bigger things in the world to worry about. If your priority is stressing over Facebook then you need to reevaluate your life.

“Harass” means to engage in a course of conduct directed at a specific person which causes substantial emotional distress to that person and serves no legitimate purpose.

Read that last line real slow. The harassment I’ve seen at the hands of the Escambia hate page usual suspects serves no legitimate purpose. They’re weaponizing the internet to harass and cyber bully. Why not spread some happiness and joy. The world needs that right now.

One of the many actions that fall under the category of a harassment offense is cyberbullying. Florida is one of a few states that not only has a harassment statute but also clearly gives a definition for cyberbullying itself.

The law bans people from limiting a victim’s ability to participate in online discussions etc. When you can’t post your own opinion online without the same people attacking you over and over because they can’t handle different opinions, or they’re doing it to control the dialogue and public opinion, you’re the definition of a cyber bully. This behavior started on ECW and now the usual regular posters are carrying it over to other local news pages on Facebook.

Enough is enough.

To anon 901, I hope AA was reported and his account suspended. That’s what you get for harassing people. The harassment I’ve seen is appalling.

On the topic of covid, I was happy to see sacred heart is now requiring their employees to be vaccinated. If scared heart was still run by the nuns like it was when I worked there we would of been required to be vaccinated last year. Better late than never though. I know some people are upset about it but I think it’s great they’re setting the example. I’m showing my age, but I remember when polio vaccines became mandatory. People that caught polio had to spend months in an iron lung and it was barbaric but it was their only hope. My uncle was one of them. I’d rather be vaccinated and wear a mask than wear a vent or a body bag. We’ve been polio free since 1979 and hopefully we will be able to say the same about covid soon.

Anon 10:37, I would have no ideo who is actually calling the shots at Studio 850 these days, but Suzette Rogers lists being an associate producer there, which certainly touches on content. I asked Teresa Hill about her involvement with the group, and she confirmed it. I have nothing against any of Jacqueline's children, and don't know them at all--the one son I met briefly on the campaign trail was very nice and polite. But after a spell of distancing their reporting from Doug and ECW's political goals, Studio 850's bias has swung heavily in that direction again, including the typical tricks of editing video to delete the public input delivered from anyone who has spoken against Jacqueline's forum or Doug's policies.

After being fooled many times over by the various excuses for this, it happened in a far too obvious manner one too many times, at which point I gave up on Studio's previous promise as a much-needed independent media voice, at least in the here and now. It's too bad, as Teresa's reporting was really a breath of fresh air for a while, on some very sensitive topics that weren't getting any other local coverage. Their failure to take up the EMS topic and really pursue the true story will always be a lasting disappointment to me, though.

“850 Studio posted a news story that I didn’t agree with and opinions I don’t share. What they should have done was called me for my viewpoint which was incredible far from the truth. I was so ticked off about the truth that I made one post after another using increasingly harsher language. I went as far as to tag Theresa and give her the third degree. It’s okay cause they later deleted all those comments. There’s just no room in this town for honesty and the truth. I’ll decide when to call it disinformation. A few days later I once again tagged Theresa on my personal Facebook page. They just suck and she needs to know. I might be running for county commissioner and the press can be my ally, but I don’t care. I’m Melissa Pino and my opinion is the only one that matters. Nobody ever comments on my personal page anyway except for Larry. I’m not sure if it’s even read.”
