Big Day As Escambia Celebrates Our County's Bicentennial!

Dignitaries and elected officials gathered in Pensacola to celebrate the 200th year of Escambia County's establishment--I was honored to be invited to participate and proud to attend the event!

Saturday morning was a great day to be a resident of Escambia County as we celebrated our 200th year as a county---one of only two original Florida counties (Escambia and St. Johns).  The committee that put this event together did a fantastic job--and they made our area proud!

We had special guests join us in downtown Pensacola, including U.S. Senator Rick Scott, Fl. State Senator Doug Broxson, both of our State Representatives -Alex Andrade and Michelle Salzman, as well as numerous other dignitaries including Mayor Grover Robinson and Chairman of the County Commission Robert Bender.

Proclamations were presented by Governor DeSantis, Escambia County, and the City of Pensacola.

We had music playing, speeches, battle re-enactments, food-trucks and BBQ vendors, a plaque unveiling, and a ceremonial Spanish flag-lowering and U.S. Flag Raising ceremony that was really impressive.

Museums were open for the day throughout downtown, with the entry fees waived--and many citizens and families were there enjoying the festivities.

A "Time Capsule" which will be unearthed in 25 years was also lowered into the ground--with many of the dignitaries present contributing items to this endeavor.  The proclamations were also added to the collection of items to be placed in the time capsule.

See some additional photos from the event here, below.

Thanks for being positive and for the photographs.

Pensacola, Florida has had an impressive history, being the first European settlement in the continental United States. Pensacola has been under the possession of the Spanish, French, British, United States, Confederate States, and has remained a part of the United States since the end of the American Civil War.

Pensacola -- City of Five Flags.

I've been aggravated since the useful idiots wanted to take down the confederate monument to the veterans of the civil war and to the ones who don't want to recognize the history but hide certain parts in an attempt to gain moral high ground in a false dichotomy similar to the Bolsheviks in Russia and Mao's cultural revolution in China.

In this day and time race is no longer a reason to say they are oppressed and all whites are the ruling class.

In short, Marx’s philosophy was that there were different classes of people: the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie were employers who controlled the means of production, the proletariat were the working-class people. Marx believed the bourgeoisie oppressed and exploited the proletariat and that there should be a new economic system to replace capitalism. In this system, wealth would be distributed to those of the proletariat. Ultimately his philosophy became communism and socialism.

That's what is behind cancel culture and erasing history of the United States of America in recent times.

Escambia and Pensacola could really have made a big deal about the recent DeLuna findings, Why haven't they?

Some of us of a certain age have been asking the same question for a long while now. Since when are Americans so compliant, so acquiescent, so, so…fearful?

Historians of the future will have a hard time figuring out how so many organized groups of strident jackasses succeeded in leading us around by the nose and morally intimidating the majority into silence. — Thomas Sowell (@ThomasSowell) June 22, 2020

Worse than silent really, complicit. Whether we are talking about COVID or BLM, facemasks or prostration, people can’t wait to get onboard the train.

I know you like Melissa Pino because she is smart and will call out Doug and ECW but honestly what is truly frightening is her left wing bent. She fights for the paramedics facing an unfair sentence but can she realize some of the protestors Jan 6 thought and still do think the election was stolen and a puppet was installed.

Really is she blind or is she really for this type of thing? Political prisoners with no rights? In our own country? Part of me thinks and hopes she is able to learn and see another viewpoint than her own rigid belief.

Anonymous 1:40, I recognize that many people in this country currently have an absolute terror of ideas outside the most rigid GOP guidelines for what they are supposed to think and believe. It's also clear to me that some of the staunchest republicans are getting fed up with conspiracy theories about covid and the insurrection, and moreover the horrible results of addled an inept policy lawmakers who know better have wrought by pandering to the conspiracy.

-"can she realize some of the protestors Jan 6 thought and still do think the election was stolen and a puppet was installed.:

Not only do I realize it, I recognize that's the reason the general protest, the mob riots, and the orchestrated insurrection (three separate things) happened in the first place. People have been fed a load of hooey over and over until they believe that the election was stolen. Which did not happen, period. And it's not an "opinion" that it was stolen. It's a falsehood propagated by some very bad actors in the GOP, and promulgated by some very savvy special interests on social media and irresponsible news outlets, and one that registered republicans in leadership positions should be decrying, because most of them with brains know better, regardless of what they feign.

--"Really is she blind or is she really for this type of thing? Political prisoners with no rights?"

Please point to any statement of mine indicating support for withholding rights from political prisoners. I don't think you will find anything, because what I believe could not be further from the truth. But perhaps I stated something poorly, or you misread.

--If by "her own rigid belief" you mean refusing to let any political party automate my belief structure and my talking points, I'll take that as a compliment. Yes, I am rigid in adhering to the truth and reality despite how unpopular it may be at certain junctures. Yes, I will be rigid in continuing to see the world through a lens of reality and not allow propaganda from any party to cloud my thinking.

The Gateway Pundit is one of the worst conspiracy hawkers on the market. The content of the article you linked is typical of their disinformation, the likes of which is destroying the fabric of our country and driving reasonable, intelligent people to become ripped up with cognitive dissonance. So I'll continue to be rigid in not allowing myself to (1) either succumb to that pressure to embrace a fantasy cognitively; or (2) operate disingenuously and not call it out for the crap that it is, while recognizing it to be exactly that, a dishonesty that so many elected officials are nonetheless content to embody because it is the easy path politically.
And yes, I will continue to be rigid in not going along to get along because a large part of the republican base want to continue to have people feed them the lie that the election was stolen, in part because it satisfies their very justifiable fear and outrage about some very wrong directions that democratic policies have taken this country in the past. They're no peaches, either. And don't even get me started on the Green Party or the various libertarian flavors, which have collapsed under their own irreconcilable tenants and are now mostly advocating for out and out anarchy.

I'm willing to bet that after another six months of covid and as more bad political bad actors at every level are arrested, indicted, and imprisoned, my "rigidity" isn't going to look so foolish in the rear view mirror. Certainly, I could be wrong. But I'm not going to lie about reality in order to get elected. If I can't trust and hope that this dystopic fugue of unreality has dispelled at least to some degree in the coming year, and that reasonable people will regain their north star of common sense, then there's really no purpose for me to be running, anyway. I trust that's going to happen, and won't give up on the truth that easily.

Bergosh whose side are you on?

Why won't you publish the links and replies?
This was not an insurrection on Jan 6. That is a lie.
Anyone that says that is lying, ignoring the truth or ignorant.

There are political prisoners held in Washington DC and have been charged with crimes like trespassing, entering a building, etc. They had no weapons. They have had no trial and have not been convicted.

No charges of Insurrection.

I'm not saying they are innocent but this had gone on too long. They have been held in solitary confinement. This is not MY America. This is a third world country oppressive regime that has taken root. These people have been held in solitary confinement only out for one hour a day and can't talk to an attorney, in our own Washington DC.

Say their names.
