What will the Salaries for Local Constitutional Officers be for 2023-2024?

The State of Florida's office of Economic and Demographic Research compiles information yearly for every county in the state--and once per year they publish a report which memorializes the salaries for elected constitutional officers statewide.

This report typically is published within the last two weeks of September.

This year, the report was completed and published this past Tuesday.

Folks should take the time to read it, as it is an interesting, enlightening read and it explains how the state sets the salaries and describes the formula(s) for how these salary levels are set.  This chart, below

at the line highlighted indicates the salary levels for Escambia County's locally elected constitutional offices.

I really enjoy publishing this yearly to my blog so folks that hate county commissioners but LOVE every other constitutional officer can see how the wages are set for all of us.  Many of these haters believe we set our own pay in some cigar-smoke filled back room somewhere.   And of course, nothing could be further from the truth.

Like everything else in the country today--pay is increasing.  It is significant.

I'm sure there is one N-Word using, racist cartoonist in Pensacola (Andy Marlette), along with about 12-13 foil hat wearers on one facebook chat site, (Escambia Hate Watch) and possibly one malcontent, 2nd rate radio entertainment host (Andrew Tallman) and maybe even the "editors" of our fake, biased, untrusted  and failed daily newspaper (PNJ) that will be absolutely apoplectic over just our salaries--and not for any other elected officials.  Just ours.  They will be hair-on-fire mad, with bulging neck veins and bloodshot-eyes-- foaming around the mouth---about only the Escambia County Commissioners' salaries--------but not anyone else's on the long list.  It's quite fascinating.  LOL.

They all power-pound this blog daily, so they'll see this.

To them all, I wish you nothing but a relaxing, enjoyable and peaceful weekend.  Maybe take a break from pounding on the keyboards in a lathered, frenzied way all weekend and get some sun instead

 😃👍

I know I'm going to have a "great" weekend!

relaxation

I’m not certain what point you’re trying to make. Are you saying that our commissioners should be paid more, or that our constitutional officers should be paid less?

From my perspective, our constitutional officers view the citizens as their priority. For example; Scott Lunsford frequently brings forward innovations with the objective of increasing the convenience of the citizens.

Likewise, the property appraiser’s website states: “Our mission is to place the public first”.

Ms. Childers took a stand against commissioner malfeasance despite fully recognizing that you four would harass her at every opportunity. That’s how to earn respect.

In contrast, our commissioners only allow citizens two minutes at public forum, and frequently don’t pay attention. That is emblematic of the fact that the commissioners do not view the citizens as a priority. Further, commissioners are willing to engage in text conversations with financial contributors at any time.

At public meetings, our commissioners frequently claim that they need to leave the meeting early. What’s more important than representing the citizens and doing your job?

Commissioners frequently don’t know their subject matter. For example; you guys sound ridiculous when you discuss Pensacola Beach or our tourism industry.

For example; Lumon May frequently claims that “God told you not to build on a barrier island.” But Chairman May and his Island Authority appointee have been staunch supporters of every sweetheart deal gifted to big developers on Pensacola Beach in the past three years. In fact D1, D3, D4, and D5 have all been granting sweetheart deals at a record pace.

Consequently, we will soon have a new 12 story private tower at 2 VDL on Casino Beach. And we were within a whisker of having private helicopter operations 365 days per year on that previously unleased Casino Beach property.

At the 11 September Budget Hearing, Mr. May told Island Authority Executive Director, Leigh Davis, that he no longer visits Pensacola Beach since “THEY automated the payment system on the Bob Sikes Bridge.” The Island Authority doesn’t control the Bob Sikes Bridge. You commissioners are responsible for that toll bridge.

And to listen to you commissioners complain about the convoluted tax system on Pensacola Beach is disgusting. The leaseholders don’t set tax policy - you commissioners championed our convoluted lease system in 2018 and in 2019.

The Commission claims to pay for the public bathrooms on Quietwater Boardwalk. The leaseholders are paying for those bathrooms - $700,000. And those businesses on Quietwater Boardwalk pay full ad valorem taxes to Escambia County, as well as generate sales tax windfalls.

You commissioners are deadbeats. On 25 March 2021, D1, D3 and D5 misappropriated a $3,355,000 FEMA grant that had been awarded for sand replenishment of the public beach.

The commissioners claim that you pay for our tourism trolleys and that those trolleys are operated for the leaseholders. The leaseholders pay for those trolleys - $579,000 in 2023 and $610,000 in 2024. And they are only operated between Memorial Day and Labor Day. They are operated for the tourists. Escambia County has not contributed one thin dime despite the fact that Pensacola Beach generates the lion’s share of our annual $21.8 million in bed taxes. And Escambia County uses those trolleys on Mondays to shuttle the jurists to to the courthouse. In fact, ownership of those trolleys, which were purchased in 2015 with Portofino lease fees, was transferred to Escambia County.

Mr. Barry is consistently il-prepared to answer any of the questions posed by his D5 constituents at his Town Halls. He has no maps, no presentation, and can’t provide his constituents with a ten-year plan. He’s absolutely clueless. And Barry has been in office for eleven years. Outrageous that he attempted to fleece the great citizens of Escambia for $226,730 in retroactive pay.

Commissioners are often petty and unprofessional. Our commissioners are frequently involved in scandal, or engaged in lawsuits.

In summary, Jeff; I don’t understand your point of this post. Do you believe that the commissioners are underpaid? Or should be better respected? I have nothing negative to say about D2, but the rest of you guys need to seriously clean up your acts.

Tom: your ad-hominem attack on just the Escambia County Commissioners demonstrates to the most casual observer that you do, in fact, understand the very simple point of this post. You not only understand the "point"---- you demonstrate it via your comments, and it is quite humorous. LOL
