Discussions with Navy Leadership

I joined Admiral Don Quinn, Santa Rosa County Commissioner Colten Wright, Pensacola Chamber of Commerce CEO Todd Thompson, and Northwest Florida Defense Coalition Executive Director Debbie Graham for a meeting with Vice Admiral Scott Gray, Commander Naval Installations Command. We’re here in Washington DC for the 2024 Defense Communities National Summit. We discussed our area’s challenges and opportunities—and some needs as well: funding for a CDC at NAS Whiting Field and additional funding for hangar repairs at NAS Pensacola. We also discussed base access issues/traffic during Blue Angels practices. Adm. Gray was receptive to multiple potential solutions. Great conversations and we were very appreciative of Admiral Gray’s time.

So grateful and relieved you are representing us on this in ex Commissioner Bender's absence. Meanwhile, back home, Kohler continues to raise hell for no purpose in order to smokescreen that he can't get anything done with Gulf Beach Highway after bragging he was going to get the BCC to prioritize the 4-lane without understanding it's a DOT issue. He clearly gets that now, but there will be no apologies for his disparaging his peers for something they have zero control over. Instead, he's going to keep making noise about Base traffic, and threatening to come back for another round of complaining if the minor solutions that could have been implemented without all his trash talk don't work. And preparing to throw Sheriff Simmons's deputies under the bus on it.

Looks like it wasn't Underhill creating all the drama.

Kohler having useless meetings with the aides of DC politicians who have done nothing to assist with traffic or the Base, and will continue to do nothing but give lip service, all the while whipping the public up about it cyclically, is the definition of drama. And dangerous drama, at that.
