Wake Up Call for Monday: Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons



Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 we welcomed to the show Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons.  He joins us weekly on Mondays, and today we discussed multiple issues with him to include last week’s huge response to what was believed to be an active shooter event at Corry Station.  Thankfully, that turned out to be a false alarm.  We also discussed with the sheriff several other high-profile arrests and a high speed chase that ended with a PIT maneuver by deputies.

The Wake Up Call for Friday: A Conversation with Dr. David Josephs on Mental Health and the Justice System Locally



Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 we welcomed to the show Dr. David Josephs, Psychologist and Clinical Director at Lakeview Center.  Dr. Josephs joined us on the program to discuss mental health issues among some in our community that becomes burdensome for the criminal justice system—with some individuals being charged with crime but also being deemed incompetent for trial—which leads them to spending weeks and weeks and sometimes months in our jail.  Dr. Josephs and I discussed this and many potential solutions to this conundrum this morning on the show.

Wake up Call for Thursday: David Bear joins us to Discuss Economic Development and TDC Revenues

 


Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 we welcomed to the show Mr. David Bear.  He is the President of the Lewis Bear Company, the Chairman of the Escambia County Tourist Development Council, and the immediate past Chairman of Triumph Gulf Coast, the entity that is charged with allocating $1.5 Billion in BP oil spill settlement dollars for qualifying environmental and economic development projects in the eight panhandle counties most impacted by the BP oil spill of 2010.  We talked about the number of Triumph projects funded, the amount of funds remaining, and who gets the interest from the funds that are not yet expended.  We also discussed the TDC and why it is that some expenditures approved by the BCC and also the TDC are blocked by the Clerk.  It was a good discussion and we appreciated Mr. Bear’s time in coming on the Wake up Call.

-local news—OLF 8 offers down to one left, a Pedestrian fatality at Hwy 98 and Blue Angel Parkway, an arrest made for the murder of Terrell Omar Owens, and $10,000 missing from the town of Century.

Wake up Call for Wednesday: Rick Outzen visits the WPNN Studios Live

 


Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 we welcomed to the show veteran radio host and current owner and publisher of InWeekly and Rick’s Blog-Rick Outzen.  I have known Rick for 20 years and along the way we have had some significant disagreements on some issues, and also a lot of mutual agreements on other issues.  He is a guy with his finger on the pulse of this town, and we talked a lot about his issue which went live today online and goes to print tomorrow.  He spotlighted some posts of interest—including a post that indicates commissioners and others may be colluding on votes outside of meetings, which is a huge no-no.  We also talked about the Clerk’s insatiable desire that I pay the county some legal fees which will not happen, and I went through the very salient reasons why not.  It was a very good conversation, and you will not want to miss the discussion(s)!

Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 we welcomed to the show veteran radio host and current weekend WPNN host Mike Bates.  Mike is responsible for the “Mike Bates Show” which airs each Saturday morning on WPNN from 7:00AM-8:00AM.  Mike joined us on the show today to discuss his day yesterday in Mobile, Alabama.  Mike was in Mobile, AL yesterday to watch the SS United States be towed into Mobile Harbor for necessary repairs prior to this ship be scuttled off of the coast of Destin in Okaloosa County.  Mike discussed his thoughts on this, the depth it should be sunk, and his experience diving wrecks all over the world.
