It seems a local condominium nearby is EXTREMELY concerned about the beach mice on this county-owned parcel, so they sent us this letter, below. We are grateful for their concern. (and I know the mice are, too!)
Then, just Tuesday afternoon we received this letter from Tallahassee describing the Governor's Executive order on Public Beach Access. Interestingly, this letter has a hyperlink that takes the reader directly to an interactive, statewide database that lists beach access hotspots and the complaints from citizens about these areas and lack of public access. Perdido Key has had a complaint listed. Interesting stuff, interesting timing, interesting sudden conservation/habitat concern. Very interesting.....

Are you ready for some """Football"""
No this is using the legal system and political means to keep a Beach Front private. He won and feels even more powerful in his corrupt ways.
Things are done on several levels and I have been following this. Yes it seems very much a legal way to still keep the public off the beach and for D2 commissioner and special interests to keep it for themselves and use the Beach mouse as a tool-- by a tool.
On another note. The road PKD does NOT need to be made a county road. Please check with FDOT and make sure Team Rodent hasn't instigated that maneuver.
Also please be aware the talk is happening to not repair FT Pickens Road, if it washes out during a storm that would be a huge loss of Beach Access for the public.
I am not sure how it all works but please via TPO,or whatever look into these things and please be a statesman and a public servant.
You are one of the only ones on the BOCC with the guts and spine to speak up against the special interest agendas on the Beach.
Economic development is better than closing off the shores to the public taxpayers of Escambia.
Be a Statesman.
I know we had the peanut gallery and now the hot and spicy peanut gallery..
Keep up the good fight.
Perhaps this may be the second act in all of this.
But, I have been hearing that Doug Underhill wants to convert Perdido Key Drive to a Country Rd from a State Road. I am concerned that If there is a natural disaster in that area being a County Road, It is the county responsibility to fix that road and if there is no money then my taxes could go up.
Therefore I contacted first FEMA and they referred me to the Dept of Transportation. I spoke to the Public Information Office and this is what they told me.
The county is responsible for damages to county roads. in case of a natural disaster they can request funds from FEMA
That alone extremely concerned me. because that road is already a State road, and now, we in this county become responsible for a road that didn't need to be our responsibility as tax payers Please advise.
