Last Thursday was stormy in the Pensacola area...Heavy storms, thunder, and lightning.
One unlucky homeowner in the Nature Trail Subdivision in Beulah absorbed a direct lightning strike on their dwelling at about 4:00 PM that day.
And it caused a fire in the attic.
The residents of the home were actually away at the time, travelling about 150 miles from home at the time of the fire. I'm told an alert resident saw the smoke rising from the neighbor's house and called 911.
Members of the Escambia County Fire Rescue Department, Station 2 (Beulah Volunteers) were in the field on a call at the time this house fire call came in.
They immediately diverted to Nature trail.
By 4:07 PM, according to official records of the incident, the Tanker and the Engine from station 2 arrived on scene and began an "aggressive" fight to save the house and as much of the residence's contents as possible.
At 4:12, Squad 3 from Brent arrived on scene as well to assist Station 2.
At 4:17 Engine 1 from Bellview arrived to assist.
In addition to these resources--three battalion Chiefs and the acting Fire Chief himself arrived on the fire scene. It was a total team effort, led by the Beulah Volunteers who arrived first on the scene.
According to one high ranking official with whom I spoke--the effort ECFR put into saving this home was fantastic. "It was an A+" this person told me.
Thanks to all of ECFR for their work on this and all the other emergencies they respond to--and a huge "Job Well Done!" goes out to the volunteers at Station 2 for getting it done once again for the residents of Beulah! Way to Go!

Engine 2 was staffed by volunteers from other stations so thank the volunteers from Bellview for their coverage. Funny how you left out that engine 6 from ensley and battalion 3 arrived moments after Engine 2 and did the extinguishment while engine 2 was unable to go further than the front room because of a big knot in their hose due to an improper hose pull.
Anonymous--I spoke to folks who were there--including high-ranking career admin: There was a hose kink, but it did not stop them in the front room, that is not true. I'm told the kink did not hinder water on the fire by volunteers who were riding in Tanker 2 and Engine 2 (Beulah, Bellview, and possibly Ferry Pass volunteers). Tanker 2 and Engine 2 were first and second on the scene, respectively. Volunteers were on the hose team. Regardless, I am told that Ensley was there as well, along with rescue 3. Like I said in my post---a positive story and kudos to all that were there and assisted. Strange how your comment comes off as soooo negative, cynical, and sarcastic. Why not take the compliment in the spirit it was intended, and tell the truth about who was on the hose team---
Union garbage from the first post. They can’t stand that volunteers do well and care about their community. They’re trying to push out competent volunteers to grow the government and want you to raise taxes. Commish, Read my lips, no new taxes. Tell the liberal unions no.
Ok, This is all great commissioner but are you going to start posting every structure fire that takes place in your districts and surrounding districts? Or are you only going to share this volunteer fire and not the other fires that your career personnel respond to on a daily basis in your districts and surrounding districts? Or are you just going to continue to instigate and play into and feed into this volunteer vs career fight? Learn to be a true leader commissioner and not play just one side of the board. Firefighters don’t work for an applause or a pat on the back. And just because your career firefighters are pro union doesn't make them a liberal at all. To all those that responded to that structure fire career and volunteer thank you for your service. All of you firefighters deserve better trucks better facilities better everything for now and for the future to come. “Always leave it better than you found it”

Thanks for recognizing the volunteers. Seems two folks take recognition of others as taking something away from them. It’s sad 12:09 days they don’t need a pat on the back, but the “what will it take campaign says otherwise”. That is full of self-accolades from fixing a bicycle to being 1st there. Just wish they could simply be proud of the job they do without trying to smear or take away from others.

Looks like we got us some Keyboard Cowboys around here. This “Us vs. Them” stuff is getting old. We all work towards the same goal to preserve lives and property. Thank you Mr. Bergosh for taking the time to recognize the efforts of all involved. Especially after all the negative press that the volunteers have been receiving from the Union trying to serve their agenda to get more staff.
The union fire guys treat all the commissioners horribly. These hard heads in the union are going to kill the good deal they have of consecutive days off to run a lawn business or fishing charter or take time off. If they keep it up, you should look to outsource what you can and force everyone onto 12-hour shifts. No consecutive days off and 24-hour shifts to lift weights and clog social media. No, no. Traditional job hours brought to you by Cement Head, your union lord.
I'm trying to understand who you claim to be and your intentions behind these post you make Mr. Burgosh. Commissioner can't you see by these post you are causing issues within this department. You claim the values of your heart are pure, but your purpose lies behind your profit. Love your neighbor volunteer career doesn't matter. As a leader of this county you should set the example not add fuel to the fire. Great job all members of ECFR. Risking your lives for us should pay more than 10 dollars an hour. How about you hire the paid on call/volunteer guys bring up the wages for their families sake and have one unified large department where no calls go unanswered.
Jesus Christ, another fine example of the "Pro" casting aspersions on the Volunteer group right off the bat...... I'm just worried that a combination of the two show up to fight a fire and get into a pissing contest about who's more effective, all while the structure burns to he ground. Commissioner, I for one would like to see attitude amongst the so called "Pro" firefighters be more accommodating to a inclusionary workforce. From my casual observations there is no such thing happening now. You can spend all the money there is on improving the equipment they need and deserve, yet still have a failing system with all of the rot contained within.
