The Wake Up Call for Friday-Live from Las Vegas Nevada: Zack Smith

Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 live from Las Vegas---we interviewed Zack Smith, a member of the Board of Trustees of Pensacola State College and the University of West Florida.  He is also an attorney, a Senior Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and the current Chairman of the UWF Presidential Search Committee.  We went through a host of local, national and international topics of interest- discussing multiple issues from around the country that traditional media outlets just won’t cover---because we will always cover interesting, important stories that are not politically correct and won’t otherwise be reported.  That’s what we do on the Wake Up Call!  😊

We are live each weekday morning from 6:00AM-8:00AM on WPNN-Pensacola's Information Station, where local, conservative morning-drive talk radio is ALIVE and Well and where we give you the most powerful 2 hour(s) in local morning drive talk radio.

Information, weather, traffic, humor, and educated, intelligent discourse with no PC filters....

Tuesday on the Wake Up Call: Discussions of the 2024-2025 Supreme Court Rulings with Zack Smith

Today on the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 –we welcomed special guest Zack Smith to the show.  Smith is an attorney, a trustee on BOTH the PSC and UWF Boards, and a Senior Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.  We discussed the recent end of the 2024-2025 Supreme Court session and multiple cases that were argued and decided over the last year—many of which are very consequential for conservatives like me!  We also did a full national and international information update on the show this morning as well—it was action packed.

Friday on the Honky-Tonk Country-Western Wake Up Call: UWF Trustee and Target of Liberal Anger Zack Smith

Today on our “Honky-Tonk” Friday edition of the wake-up call live on WPNN 103.7 –We had Zack Smith live in the studio. Smith is the newly installed member of the UWF Board of Trustees, a Heritage Foundation senior Fellow, a professor at UWF, and a native of Pensacola. He has been under intense scrutiny in the press locally ever since he was named to the board by Governor Ron DeSantis. We spoke a lot about that and a host of other topics to include public school grading scales, college admissions shenanigans, and activist Federal Judges attempting to steal power away from our president via their nationwide injunctions. You will want to download the show and listen to this interview! In addition to this, we did a full local, national, and international news roundup.

Tough Decisions Ahead at Some Schools....

Two years ago the board voted to add an additional hour to several struggling elementary schools for the purpose of intensive reading instruction. I voted for this, with a bit of skepticism. Last year, with mixed data and the first year of new FCAT scoring that made progress difficult to measure, I again decided to vote to support the additional hour of reading at several inner-city elementary schools. I did so with "great trepidation"--I was even quoted in the newspaper saying this.

In the last two years at these schools, we have focused resources, outside organizations, volunteers, and specialists and subject area coaches on the task of improving reading scores. We have brought in outside groups to some schools in an effort to improve (Studer Education at Montclair, UWF at Weis) and we have asked our teachers to work longer hours (even though many were not happy with this, and left these schools to work at non-extended day schools). We experienced attrition of staff at all these schools. We instituted a mandatory 1st-grade retention policy for those that did not pass the FCAT in grade one.

We have worked and worked, and teachers have given so much effort in these schools that it is heartbreaking to see the results of the third grade FCAT reading scores that were released today. Today we see that ---through NO FAULT of the staffs, teachers, behavior coaches, volunteers, or any other
