I am one member of a five person board. The opinions I express on this forum are mine only, and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of the Escambia County Staff, Administrators, Employees, or anyone else associated with Escambia County Florida. I am interested in establishing this blog as a means of additional transparency to the public, outreach to the community, and information dissemination to all who choose to look. Feedback is welcome, but because public participation is equally encouraged, appropriate language and decorum is mandatory. Although this is not my campaign site for re-election--sometimes campaign related information will be discussed, therefore in an abundance of caution I add the following : Political Advertisement Paid for and Approved by Jeff Bergosh, Republican, for Escambia County Commissioner District 1

OLF 8 Master Plan Timetable Released

At this evening's regular BCC meeting, the board will be approving an agreement with DPZ design, the firm that was awarded the contract to complete a citizen-driven master plan for the 636-acre site in Beulah known as OLF 8.  This property, acquired by Escambia County from the US Navy last January after a multi-decade effort, was pursued as an economic development project to create jobs.  After many discussions with my counterparts on the board, Navy Federal Credit Union, and nearby residents--the property will now be used to create jobs and for providing community amenities and other potential developments.  The board voted on the document that will guide this master planning via a 5-0 vote in late 2018.

The county will be paying DPZ for the work to provide the plan, but these funds will be reimbursed to the county by Navy Federal Credit Union--which was a part of the consideration the county garnered from NFCU in exchange for the sale of nearly 100 acres of this property to NFCU for their use.

Residents have expressed concern and have had questions about where we are in this process--and I would strongly recommend that these residents take a look at this contract and the associated exhibits which will answer many of these questions.
